100 Great Artists and Albums That BEA Forgot (Below Top 1000) by jhuik

Basic rule: artist's top rated album must finish out of the top 1000 on the site... Here's the fuller description: I love BEA and in general BEA users have a pretty good handle on what's really worth preserving, and albummaster's algorithms really rock. I love how Doolittle, Slint, the Pogues, Prince Billy and a lot of other great but unusual artists make the top 1000 (Deerhunter, Iron and Wine, Pavement, on and on). Here are 100 albums that are really (often surprisingly) uderrated by the BEA Collective. Rules: No more than 1 album by any artist as there are so many that fit the bill. Artists must not score a single album in the top 1000 when the album gets added to this or any other chart of mine. And must be at least 3 years old. I deprecate my own preferences to some degree and used a sort-of-algorithm to find some I don't even really know about. I try to lean toward unfairly-forgotten but there are some 'established artists' who I think have somehow ended up dissed by history, too. There is also a forum thread where users have suggested additions (http://www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13385). A couple of interesting trends I notice is the site's obvious slant away from women artists and the whole jazz > the blues thing (which I disagree with, period). Let me know your favourite unfairly-forgotten album and artist in the comments.

A separate chart of mine, '100 Great Albums By Established Artists' has a bit of overlap as the title suggests is less 'underground-cred' focused. See http://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=26933

Honestly, this is just a shame. Not even top 2000 for this legend? Let me tell you my opinion on the whole jazz-is-much-more-sophisticated than-the-blues thing. Not his most original but certainly his most accessible. [First added to this chart: 09/13/2015]

Great job, some picks ar very good. But some albums are now in the top 1000, or are descending/ascending every week.

@meccalecca Thanks very much for the comment and rating. 1000 is a cutoff point, selected at random I suppose, but with some interesting effects. Agree that these are not all forgotten. Still, it's an interesting exercise. There could be an interesting chart of 'out of the top 2000 only,' etc.

Good chart. No complains from me. There's some stuff I don't care for and see why it was "forgotten" (the vines, everclear, edward sharpe) but there's stuff I love immensely that I agree deserves far more respect than it gets (andrew bird, go-betweens, bobb trimble).

My only criticism may be that the parameters are too broad. Being outside of the top 1000 isn't really that forgotten considering how many charts some of the records do appear on.

Nice chart, interesting picks. I am especially surprised to not see Stars of the Lid and Mountain Goats in this list, I thought they were more acclaimed here. Most of the rest is not known to me, so I will take a look.
