Top 25 Greatest Music Albums by kryptos006 Unknown

Listen, I know what you all want. I have known from the beginning. You don't want me to make a list of my favourite albums; you want a list of obscure albums so that you can locate more obscure music and further deepen your claim for maximal hip-ness. This is not something for which I strive. I don't care. Music is my life-blood, not my banner of coolness. I have long since known that I was going to have to make a list like this, but have put it off because, well, I'm lazy. And I'm still lazy. This is only a top 25 because I don't have time to make a full 100 with this premise.

Alright, here is the idea. This list is made up entirely of albums that are not in the BEA Top 500, but still kick some ass. I also have taken the liberty of only including one album per artist. Some of these albums are still what you would call classics, but for some reason they are not in the top 500, so they are eligible for my list. I might eventually further restrict it to having to be without the top 1,000, but for now you will have to live with this.

I hope you all understand why this should not be the model for this site, though. This is a site that aggregates your favourite albums to make a list of the greatest albums of all time. If you have all these people competing in a big dick contest to show off to their friends, you can see how that makes the list inaccurate. But, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I suppose. So, here you go.

As with Autobahn, this is one of my faves, anyway. BEA has Skylarking and English Settlement higher, both of which are unimpeachably great records, but I submit that this one is better than both of them. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

In some ways, I feel it is unfair to put this album on this list. After all, OK Computer is literally #1 on this site. It's not as if you guys are ignoring Radiohead. But, I have enough experience with Radiohead fans to know this and that is that Pablo Honey gets ignored WAY too much. It is actually a really good album! I am not just including it on this list as the one 'Head record that didn't make the top 500. Go give it a relisten. Tell me that "You," "Creep," "Stop Whispering," "Anyone Can Play Guitar," and "Blow Out" are not some of the catchiest damn alt anthems you have ever heard and I will eat my boots. Hell, there really isn't a bad song on the album. It is like people want this album to be bad, but it just ain't so. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Again, this is my favourite Aphex album. Another fun fact: "4" is another one of my top ten favourite songs. At this point, we have already found two of the ten! Unfortunately, we will only have one more of the ten uncovered on this list. (Hint: Go read the Emperor Tomato Ketchup entry.) But even without "4," this album is amazing. I will stand by this record until the day I die. Singles 45s And Under is better and is probably the album I would recommend to someone trying to get into Squeeze, but that is a compilation album. I don't even think Argybargy is as good of an LP as Cosi. This one is more original and is probably the least Squeeze-sounding Squeeze album I have heard, but boy oh boy is it cool! This one is more or less the one I had in mind when I said there were classics on this list, but who cares? It is so cool and catchy and punky, but still poppy. It is a nice bundle of everything you love about the 70s! [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This has been a favourite of mine since I was a kid. "My White Bicycle" has gotta be one of the best songs of the 60s. It is CRA-ZAY to me that this one is not even in the top 8,000. That is nothing shy of stupid. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Fun and refreshing. I, too, love Squeeze and the Specials. Came to realise that my chart is more generic but I just put my honest-to-God favourite albums I have enjoyed over the years. Some of my taste has been influenced by music media but most of my picks were just honest ones. Still your picks are very good. Respec'! And your comments are funny man.
