Top 25 Greatest Music Albums by kryptos006 Unknown

Listen, I know what you all want. I have known from the beginning. You don't want me to make a list of my favourite albums; you want a list of obscure albums so that you can locate more obscure music and further deepen your claim for maximal hip-ness. This is not something for which I strive. I don't care. Music is my life-blood, not my banner of coolness. I have long since known that I was going to have to make a list like this, but have put it off because, well, I'm lazy. And I'm still lazy. This is only a top 25 because I don't have time to make a full 100 with this premise.

Alright, here is the idea. This list is made up entirely of albums that are not in the BEA Top 500, but still kick some ass. I also have taken the liberty of only including one album per artist. Some of these albums are still what you would call classics, but for some reason they are not in the top 500, so they are eligible for my list. I might eventually further restrict it to having to be without the top 1,000, but for now you will have to live with this.

I hope you all understand why this should not be the model for this site, though. This is a site that aggregates your favourite albums to make a list of the greatest albums of all time. If you have all these people competing in a big dick contest to show off to their friends, you can see how that makes the list inaccurate. But, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I suppose. So, here you go.

This album is actually usually pretty high even on my favourite albums list. At this point, I think it is actually my favourite Kraftwerk album. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

As with Autobahn, this is one of my faves, anyway. BEA has Skylarking and English Settlement higher, both of which are unimpeachably great records, but I submit that this one is better than both of them. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This album still kicks my ass. Every single time I come back to it, I love it just as much, if not more. It is truly shocking to me that it is not reputed as a modern classic. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Truly one of the most beautiful albums out there. One of my three favourite shoegaze records (I get it, I am not hip enough because the other two are Loveless and Nowhere). [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

OK. This one actually takes some defense because, UNBELIEVABLY, there are no Faust records in the top 500, which means I got to choose which one to put on this list. And I chose this one. This is a mixture of two things: (1) It is a thoroughly kick ass record and (2) it is the most ignored of all Faust's Big Four albums. And I can't let that be. This album is a towering monolith, a wonder of Nature. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This just pisses me off. Come on, BEA; this album is right up your alley!! Not as poppy as Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, more indie-y, and better all around! This is one of those albums that I suspected would be in this site's top 100, only to find it is not even in the top 1,000. Let's get this fixed. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Yes, this album is better than Last Splash. But, apparently you guys don't even require that much convincing, because LS is barely even in the top 1,000. You guys know the Pixies and Nirvana, right? Yeah? It sure looks like it, based on your top 20. And, yet, you seem to be missing a lot of stuff that is indicative of fans of those two bands. Where is Teenager of the Year? Not in the top 1,000. Where is The Raincoats? Not in the top 2,000. Where are THE GODDAMN MEATPUPPETS??? II is in the top 1,000 BY A HAIR. A FUCKING HAIR. Up On The Sun is not in the top 2,000!! Oh, but you can somehow listen to MTV Unplugged and not go and check out the band that contributed THREE OF THE SIX COVER SONGS??? You call yourself Nirvana/Pixies fans?? Anyway, Pod kicks ass. I tried to avoid putting albums from this last year on this list, because I know it is going to take a while for them to get fully gestated. But this one and I think one other made the cut. This one because it is super underrated on here and I love it like an infant child, and the other one because there seems to be no way it is ever going to catch up, and it needs to. Others from this year that I really like are In Colour, Sometimes I Sit And Think And Sometimes I Just Sit, Every Open Eye, The Epic, To Pimp A Butterfly (though I do admittedly think it is a little overrated), and Frozen Niagara Falls. There are others, but those are the biggies. OH! And the new Sleater-Kinney! That album was my favourite of the year for a long, long time. I was expecting everyone to overhype it, but that did not happen at all. It kind of got ignored, in fact.
But Art Angels. This album is perfect. Trying to pick a favourite song from this album is pert near impossible, for me. I implore you, give it a listen and let's get it in the top 1,000.

I had originally planned to put Neu! '75 on here, because I assumed Neu! would be in the top 200, at least. Right next to Tago Mago, or something. At least Ege Bamyasi. But, no. There it is, way down in the 600s. Speaking of which, Future Days would be in my top 5 on this list, but it is pretty close to 500, so I'll let it slide. That album used to be my fave Can record. Anyway, Neu!. YOU GUYS? WHY IS IT SO LOW? Have you not heard "Hallogallo"? Did you know, a little fun fact, "Hallogallo" is one of my top ten favourite songs of all time. Of all time. The whole record is really good, though. Just gorgeous. Anyone that says that ambient is boring has not heard this album. Or Neu! '75. Or basically any ambient, because ambient music is often beautiful. Yes, it can be boring, but it doesn't have to be. Those Germans, in particular, really know how to make some pretty ambient music. In some ways, I feel it is unfair to put this album on this list. After all, OK Computer is literally #1 on this site. It's not as if you guys are ignoring Radiohead. But, I have enough experience with Radiohead fans to know this and that is that Pablo Honey gets ignored WAY too much. It is actually a really good album! I am not just including it on this list as the one 'Head record that didn't make the top 500. Go give it a relisten. Tell me that "You," "Creep," "Stop Whispering," "Anyone Can Play Guitar," and "Blow Out" are not some of the catchiest damn alt anthems you have ever heard and I will eat my boots. Hell, there really isn't a bad song on the album. It is like people want this album to be bad, but it just ain't so. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Fun and refreshing. I, too, love Squeeze and the Specials. Came to realise that my chart is more generic but I just put my honest-to-God favourite albums I have enjoyed over the years. Some of my taste has been influenced by music media but most of my picks were just honest ones. Still your picks are very good. Respec'! And your comments are funny man.
