Top 25 Greatest Music Albums by kryptos006 Unknown

Listen, I know what you all want. I have known from the beginning. You don't want me to make a list of my favourite albums; you want a list of obscure albums so that you can locate more obscure music and further deepen your claim for maximal hip-ness. This is not something for which I strive. I don't care. Music is my life-blood, not my banner of coolness. I have long since known that I was going to have to make a list like this, but have put it off because, well, I'm lazy. And I'm still lazy. This is only a top 25 because I don't have time to make a full 100 with this premise.

Alright, here is the idea. This list is made up entirely of albums that are not in the BEA Top 500, but still kick some ass. I also have taken the liberty of only including one album per artist. Some of these albums are still what you would call classics, but for some reason they are not in the top 500, so they are eligible for my list. I might eventually further restrict it to having to be without the top 1,000, but for now you will have to live with this.

I hope you all understand why this should not be the model for this site, though. This is a site that aggregates your favourite albums to make a list of the greatest albums of all time. If you have all these people competing in a big dick contest to show off to their friends, you can see how that makes the list inaccurate. But, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I suppose. So, here you go.

This album still kicks my ass. Every single time I come back to it, I love it just as much, if not more. It is truly shocking to me that it is not reputed as a modern classic. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Truly one of the most beautiful albums out there. One of my three favourite shoegaze records (I get it, I am not hip enough because the other two are Loveless and Nowhere). [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This just pisses me off. Come on, BEA; this album is right up your alley!! Not as poppy as Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, more indie-y, and better all around! This is one of those albums that I suspected would be in this site's top 100, only to find it is not even in the top 1,000. Let's get this fixed. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Yes, this album is better than Last Splash. But, apparently you guys don't even require that much convincing, because LS is barely even in the top 1,000. You guys know the Pixies and Nirvana, right? Yeah? It sure looks like it, based on your top 20. And, yet, you seem to be missing a lot of stuff that is indicative of fans of those two bands. Where is Teenager of the Year? Not in the top 1,000. Where is The Raincoats? Not in the top 2,000. Where are THE GODDAMN MEATPUPPETS??? II is in the top 1,000 BY A HAIR. A FUCKING HAIR. Up On The Sun is not in the top 2,000!! Oh, but you can somehow listen to MTV Unplugged and not go and check out the band that contributed THREE OF THE SIX COVER SONGS??? You call yourself Nirvana/Pixies fans?? Anyway, Pod kicks ass. Believe it or not, this is actually my favourite White Stripes record. I do really like Elephant and White Blood Cells, but there is not a bad song on this album, and I don't feel like the Whites are taking themselves too seriously on this album. Whoa. Did I just say that Jack and Meg White take themselves too seriously on a site that has Elephant as like the 50th best album, ever? I better prepare a fort before I get a mass of pitchfork-wielding Pitchfork-lovers at my doorstep. Elephant is good. Really good. I sometimes put it on my favourite albums list, but not up THAT high. That is just silly. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Elliott Smith is one of my top 10 favourite music artists on a list that includes Radiohead, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, and Talking Heads. No small compliment. As such, it was difficult for me to pick which one of the three Smith LPs that weren't in the top 500. Really, I could have just as easily picked his eponymous album and not felt bad about it. Elliott Smith is to Figure 8 as Either/Or is to XO. One is minimalist beauty and the other is maximalist beauty. Either/Or is probably the best Elliott album, so I will let this battle go to the maximalist camp, this time around. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This is one of those albums that I am not surprised is not high up on this site, but still really should be. If "Dixie Chicken" and "Two Trains" aren't catchy enough to convince you, "Roll Um Easy" will sweep you off your feet. The latter song is one of my favourite songs of the seventies. It has been ignored for too long. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

When I was 10, I got really into Broken Boy Soldiers, but now I MUCH prefer this one. To be fair, Consolers had not yet hit the shelves when I was 10. I had nothing to compare it to. But this is easily the best thing that Jack White has done outside of the Stripes. Don't let the superior ranking of Blunderbuss on this site convince you otherwise. Again, like Pablo Honey, I am not including this album on this list as the one LCD record that didn't make the top 500. I am putting it on here because their later successes did too much to overpower this one. This album is actually really, really good. It has a couple of my favourite LCD songs (e.g. "Never As Tired As When I'm Waking Up," "Tribulations"). Plus, if you buy the CD version, you get "Losing My Edge," which is one of the best songs of the 00s! Or at least one of the funniest! [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This is the other 2015 album. And I do think this album is awesome. For proof, go listen to "Sunburned Shirts" or, if you really wanna treat yourself, "Something Soon." Ooohh... "Something Soon." Even though Car Seat Headrest is apparently heavily influenced by Robert Pollard (I can imagine making a comparison to "Tractor Rape Chain"), I would almost say it sounds more like if the Beach Boys were to make a lo-fi record. See what you think! [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Fun and refreshing. I, too, love Squeeze and the Specials. Came to realise that my chart is more generic but I just put my honest-to-God favourite albums I have enjoyed over the years. Some of my taste has been influenced by music media but most of my picks were just honest ones. Still your picks are very good. Respec'! And your comments are funny man.

The Last Will and Testament of kryptos006, the best thing to happen to BEA since circlejerking hipsters.
