Top 25 Greatest Music Albums by kryptos006 Unknown

Listen, I know what you all want. I have known from the beginning. You don't want me to make a list of my favourite albums; you want a list of obscure albums so that you can locate more obscure music and further deepen your claim for maximal hip-ness. This is not something for which I strive. I don't care. Music is my life-blood, not my banner of coolness. I have long since known that I was going to have to make a list like this, but have put it off because, well, I'm lazy. And I'm still lazy. This is only a top 25 because I don't have time to make a full 100 with this premise.

Alright, here is the idea. This list is made up entirely of albums that are not in the BEA Top 500, but still kick some ass. I also have taken the liberty of only including one album per artist. Some of these albums are still what you would call classics, but for some reason they are not in the top 500, so they are eligible for my list. I might eventually further restrict it to having to be without the top 1,000, but for now you will have to live with this.

I hope you all understand why this should not be the model for this site, though. This is a site that aggregates your favourite albums to make a list of the greatest albums of all time. If you have all these people competing in a big dick contest to show off to their friends, you can see how that makes the list inaccurate. But, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I suppose. So, here you go.

This album still kicks my ass. Every single time I come back to it, I love it just as much, if not more. It is truly shocking to me that it is not reputed as a modern classic. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

This just pisses me off. Come on, BEA; this album is right up your alley!! Not as poppy as Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, more indie-y, and better all around! This is one of those albums that I suspected would be in this site's top 100, only to find it is not even in the top 1,000. Let's get this fixed. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Believe it or not, this is actually my favourite White Stripes record. I do really like Elephant and White Blood Cells, but there is not a bad song on this album, and I don't feel like the Whites are taking themselves too seriously on this album. Whoa. Did I just say that Jack and Meg White take themselves too seriously on a site that has Elephant as like the 50th best album, ever? I better prepare a fort before I get a mass of pitchfork-wielding Pitchfork-lovers at my doorstep. Elephant is good. Really good. I sometimes put it on my favourite albums list, but not up THAT high. That is just silly. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

OH, COME ON! This is such a catchy album. Screw Twin Cinema. This one is worlds better. For a little while, my brother-in-law told people that "Mass Romantic" was his favourite song. Like, of all time. Nowadays he would probably cite an Arctic Monkeys song, but that is still impressive. This album is full of unbelievably catchy ditties. Give it a chance. Elliott Smith is one of my top 10 favourite music artists on a list that includes Radiohead, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, and Talking Heads. No small compliment. As such, it was difficult for me to pick which one of the three Smith LPs that weren't in the top 500. Really, I could have just as easily picked his eponymous album and not felt bad about it. Elliott Smith is to Figure 8 as Either/Or is to XO. One is minimalist beauty and the other is maximalist beauty. Either/Or is probably the best Elliott album, so I will let this battle go to the maximalist camp, this time around. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Again, why is this album so low on this list? This is the epitome of BEA material! And it's not like you guys don't know who Stars are; you know who Broken Social Scene is, and Stars are some of BSS's biggest contributors. This album, as my dad described it, is a "tacklebox of awesome hooks." Give it a listen. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Yeah, "Young Folks" is awesome, but would you believe me if I told you it is not even my favourite song on the album? That distinction goes to "Up Against The Wall." Don't let their "one-hit wonder" overshadow the effect of the album. The whole album is really good, regardless of what you all say. [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

When I was 10, I got really into Broken Boy Soldiers, but now I MUCH prefer this one. To be fair, Consolers had not yet hit the shelves when I was 10. I had nothing to compare it to. But this is easily the best thing that Jack White has done outside of the Stripes. Don't let the superior ranking of Blunderbuss on this site convince you otherwise. Again, like Pablo Honey, I am not including this album on this list as the one LCD record that didn't make the top 500. I am putting it on here because their later successes did too much to overpower this one. This album is actually really, really good. It has a couple of my favourite LCD songs (e.g. "Never As Tired As When I'm Waking Up," "Tribulations"). Plus, if you buy the CD version, you get "Losing My Edge," which is one of the best songs of the 00s! Or at least one of the funniest! [First added to this chart: 01/12/2016]

Admittedly, this is more of a guilty pleasure than anything (though not more so than her second album, Two), but there are so many cool songs on here that I decided to shape out my list and throw it on here. At the very least, if you don't like "The Show," you must be a masochist, but there are so many pretty ditties on Lenka that I only feel a little lame in putting it on this list. Fun and refreshing. I, too, love Squeeze and the Specials. Came to realise that my chart is more generic but I just put my honest-to-God favourite albums I have enjoyed over the years. Some of my taste has been influenced by music media but most of my picks were just honest ones. Still your picks are very good. Respec'! And your comments are funny man.
