Here are the selections I've chosen to enter for my list of the "28 Greatest Music Albums." Do I really feel that these are, in order, THE Greatest 28 albums of all the albums that have ever been released? Not really. I think instead that it would be more accurate to say that these are 28 albums that I feel would definitely be in my Top 50 albums of all time and that the exact order of them, while in somewhat of a proper sequence, is always subject to change, and likely will, at any time. My tastes can certainly change over time and usually do, at least slightly. Part of the reason is because music itself is always changing and developing which not only creates new sounds and styles, but which also puts everything that has come before it into a different context. Another factor is my own personal moods. If over a period of time I've been in the mood for a lot of funk and soul music then I would definitely include some Parliament/Funkadelic albums amongst my favorites. Then maybe a few weeks later I'm more in the mood for psychedelic music then I would have to include some Pink Floyd and Spiritualized amongst my favorites.
With all of that in mind I should be able to safely say, without sounding neither indecisive or high-brow, that trying to determine a definitive list of the overall BEST albums of all time from all genres is actually a bit ridiculous. Whether any piece of music is good or bad is, after all, entirely subjective and completely a matter of personal taste. There are no "right" or "wrong" answers so even if a million people think album XXX is the greatest piece of music ever recorded and one other person thinks album XXX sucks, that doesn't mean that person wrong. All it means is that person doesn't get the same enjoyment from that album the way many other people do.
