You have to love the process of discovery. Poneman looking for the next big thing. beam baring his soul in some reldemos . and there was magic there. no studio trickery. No Band. Just Beam channeling Appalachalia a thousands of miles of way into his bedroom. Channeling a campfire that never was. And this is the power of imagination. He made an a lo-fi appalachian albs, Call it lo fi indie if you want. The setting tell us to do so. The record label tells us to do so. But the songs. The voice. Imagine if of Galaxie 500 fame favorite stuff was Simon& Garfunkel while at same time hating how pretentious & overwrought Simon Garfunkel became starting with Bookends. Instead he works crazy hard to make super lo-fi improving on his inspiration by roughing it up. No one beats the lush orchestration of Simon & Garfunkel tracks like scarborough Fair.
A more mellow, lush & romantic twee velvet underground also comes to mind with "Sunday Morning" being the closest to their vision. But purposely submerging the tracks under water so that have this watery, shimmery slightly added & eroded feel to them
If you're a romantic and have wished that Simon 7 Garfunkel had been cool as opposed to overwrought & pretentious you need to give this a try. [First added to this chart: 07/13/2017]

It had to happen. That some band would actually capitalize on the greatness of simon & Garfunkel. S & G could never pull it off for an entire album. Put their singles were blueprints for millions.

Like a demo. recorded far away. bashful even about being recorded. oh oooh oh ohhh. It's girl music all the way. records in a girls room. It' has a quality that made Kitty Pride so charming with that beastie boys hit. It oozes crushes. a softness and innocence. like the vasolines.

Safe. away from real world concerns. a girl who a bit too shy. who probably quite hasn't learned to kiss just yet. too self-conscious. bashful. turns away from your gaze after a while. a beret in her hair. who's been more into romanticizing romance then actually romancing.
like the raincoats (kurds) stumbled onto sth personal. like the sweetest girls diary.
