Most great albums take a few listens to really sink in, but I knew this was an all-time classic by the end of my first. Pop perfection from beginning to end. Doug Martsch attempted to distill the big ideas and bigger sound of Built to Spill into its most compact and accessible form, and ended up creating a masterpiece of guitar rock. Nothing can compare to Loveless. It is less an album than an experience, one that grabs you from start to finish and uses the towering expansiveness of its sound to transport the listener into an aural realm unlike any other. Hearing Sgt. Pepper for the first time is the most memorable experience I’ve ever had listening to an album...this wasn’t in the 60’s, it was 2009. Before, I had never cared much about music and just listened to the same handful of songs over and over again. This album opened my mind to the artistic potential of rock, and of music in general; every bit of exploration and expansion of my musical taste is thanks to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
