The Cure's sound to me is all about atmosphere, and it's impossible not to get absorbed into this album. There's nothing quite like this album for me, the instrumentation and lyrics fit together so well to create a completely surreal experience. Every song adds a new perspective to the atmosphere, dragging you deeper with each cut. This album is truly fantastic in pretty much every way.

Another absorbingly atmospheric album. I found this album after loving Ok Computer and the Bends, and within the first 30 seconds of everything in it's right place I was looking the album up online to make sure that I had got the right one, and that it's actually the same Radiohead I knew. The first listen was pretty bewildering and completely confused me, but I kept coming back, I think just because it was so strange to me at the time. Around that same time, I went on a small trip with my dad who had a conference at a university, so in the day when he was busy I would have hours of free time biking around and exploring. I don't think I ever had Kid A not playing on a loop; I probably listened it through at least 5 times a day. It was a point in my life where it just made sense, not necessarily the lyrics specifically but the whole atmosphere provided by the complex sounds and word choice. On our way back from the trip, my dad and I went into a record store, and I bought Kid A -- My first record. Now every listen transports me back to biking around a university and that stage in my life. The feeling this album gives me is so distinct, and I don't think that will ever go away with repeated listens.

Prince is my favourite artist, and with such a diverse and massive discography, it was very difficult to choose which albums have a place on this chart. This album, to me, encapsulates the concept of Prince the most, and not just due to it being a double album. Every song is unique and has a distinct place on the album, showing a different side of Prince without feeling at all out of place. Prince is one of the most fascinating figures in music, and I feel like this album really paints a picture of the mysterious individual. The virtuosity of Prince is undeniable, and this album may be the height of his wide talent.

Who are you if you haven't listened to Thunder Road. This album was also one of my firsts on vinyl, and potentially the most spun in my collection. I'm not too sure how old I was during the following times, but I forever associate this album with those moments. Every Sunday (among others) I would get a stack of Calvin and Hobbes collections and blast Born to Run. It blew my mind every listen, and hearing this album transports me back to my old living room floor on a Sunday morning reading Calvin and Hobbes. As cheesy as it sounds, this was a simpler time, and it feels very therapeutic to escape back to it ad just enjoy the Boss.

Growing up in the 21st century, everyone knows that the Beatles are "the greatest band of all time" but apart from unescapable hits, they are largely a mystery to recent generations. Younger audiences know that the Beatles are a big deal, but many don't actually know why, or consider their music to still be relevant today. I fell under this category until one day I was flipping through my dad's records, and found the white album. I remember listening it through and just thinking, who knew the Beatles were so fucking weird. I enjoyed the white album and Sgt. Peppers, but neither album had such a strong impact on me as Revolver. This album is beautiful, spiritual, funky, quirky, emotional and yet cohesive. This album just has too many timeless songs to ignore, and still sounds quite like nothing else in this day and age. The variation in instrumentation blew my mind, because I had always kind of thought that music over time had gotten more creative and diverse, but this album kind of proved the opposite to some degree. The care and place of all four members shines through to create this creative masterpiece. Also props to the cover art.

It happened to me. I don't really think that this album is the best representation for Chet's talent or "mythology", however there is no question that it is my favourite. For high school I went to boarding school, and in our last year we were given the option of taking one less class, and having a spare block. This spare changed and improved me so much, and my memories of school always seem to jump there. Every (or almost every) spare, I would go to my best friends room, make coffee, and talk. Oh and listen religiously to It Could Happen To You on his turntable. The amount of emotions Iv'e experience when this album has been playing is pretty significant; talking to my friend, goofing off, unpacking troubles and working through depression and anxiety never seemed so casual and somehow light-hearted? Apart from the strong emotional connection I have to this album, it is pretty fantastic, and Chet does shine. The feeling of warmth and sense of home I get from this album is immense, but always a little melancholic listening to it without that friend.

Yeah definitely my favourite Dylan album, maybe because it was my first or maybe just because it's really fucking good. Dylan's resonating poetry and story telling cause potentially the most direct emotional response from any album I have listened through. It's hard to talk about this album just cause Dylan gave us so much to talk about, so I think I'm gonna leave this more brief and assume anyone reading this has heard it and know it's profound affect. If you haven't then maybe pick yourself up a copy and listen along with the lyrics in front of you. Each listen I discover new potential interpretations of lyrics that blow my mind, it also probably help that I had an english teacher obsessed with Dylan.

This is not one of Bowie's masterpieces. In terms of creativity and monumentality this album may pale in comparison to some of Bowie's other giants. However, Young Americans remains my favourite album of his. The "plastic-soul" sound is one that I just simply enjoy too much to disregard. Young Americans may be my favourite song of all time, and the rest are pretty fantastic as well. I do think that this album is criminally underrated, and is one of the most enjoyable listens out there. The soulful sound of this album is comparable to the greats, as unassuming as it may seem coming from the artist the artist behind it. To me this album shows Bowie's diversity of mastery in any direction he pursues.
