Unlike 2018’s clear standout number one album (Mitski) , 2019 wasn’t as clear cut. Fontains DC sat top for most of the year , was challenged by Vampire Weekend and Tool but ultimately there could only be one king , or make that queen. Lana Del Rey finally releases the masterpiece she's been threatening to for 5 years. She will never release another album as good as ‘NFR’ and that’s OK , she doesn’t need to
2019 was particularly remarkable for not only did a female artist finish as my favourite album the second consecutive year following Mitski in 2018 but females artists dominated my top 50 list like never before with 24 artists in total, including 5 of the top 10
