Box Scaggs is a wonder, and this album captures some of his best early work.

Why Willie DeVille and Mink DeVille weren't more appreciated is one of the great mysteries of contemporary musical history.

Morrison's apparently a miserable little git, but he's also a masterful songwriter, a soulful singer and as unique a voice as pop/rock's ever produced.

Any one of the Stones earliest albums could easily be argued into any top ten or twenty. If they'd only produced half of the songs on this compilation, they'd still deserve the title of Greatest Rock 'n' Roll band of all time.

I seem to remember that Rolling Stone magazine gave Exile on Main Street sort of mixed reviews when it first came out. Just goes to show what they knew.

The criticism that compilation albums shouldn't appear on a "best albums" list is a fair one, I suppose. On the other hand, the site's called "Best Ever Albums," and not "Best Ever Non-Compilation Albums." Yhat defense having been made, I can see that a list made up entirely of compilation albums would actually be more of a "Best Artist" list than a "Best Album" list. I'll think about it some more, and maybe see what replacing some of the compilations with original-issues would do to my ratings.

I love / like almost all of the artists on your chart, really good taste but....... I have a real overersion to compliations / best ofs being in a best ever albums list. They may be a collection of great songs but they aren't a single body of work. The only exceptions would be artists like Robert Johnson who did have the means to make albums, The Stones (Hot Rocks), would get a thump down, 'cos they could & did.
