Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 81.1/100, a mean average of 80.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.4/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 15.7.

Pearl Jam can rightly be named as one of the most dominant and definitely long standing bands from the grunge era. They have a considerable number of some of the greatest tracks ever to come out of the genre. However I do find the vast majority of their albums (apart from Ten & V's) seem to have just a couple of outstanding songs, but while most other tracks are above average, their albums for some reason just feel like there's too much filler.

Somehow underated on this site... I mean, it's true that for the last 20 years they turned out a slightly boring MOR rock band, but everything they did in the 90's, from Ten to Binaural, was absolutely stellar. No matter how you see things, Pearl Jam are a 90's top-3 worthy band.

My favorite band of all time...

All of the moronic backlash against this band is just further testament to their overwhelming greatness.

I’ve been a fan from the beginning their debut is one of the best ever. The band arrived fully formed. The first 3 albums are essential. I believe they became more experimental and difficult beginning with No Code through Riot Act which produced a lot of great tracks but made for less cohesive albums. They started to get back to that with their self titled but were a little rusty until Back Spacer when they pulled it all together again. Now the band is enjoying another interesting period in their journey and have cemented their legacy.

Transformed from one of the most influential and best new bands of the 90s to stadium rock band which doesn't even sound like stadium rock. From the outstanding, hair raising Ten, angry VS and experimental Vitalogy, No Code and Yield to fantastic pop rock of Backspacer and Lightning Bolt it's been quite a journey. Everything in between is also great, no question. Not all the albums are perfect of course, but they more than make up for it by delivering fantastic live performances since 1991. One of my absolutely favourite bands ever.
