Her "introverted" masterpiece. Put this on, let yourself get lost in the magic. It sounds just like winter to me. [First added to this chart: 03/12/2015]

Oh, Lana del Rey.

She kind of pisses me off, as she's very in love with her own dark tragedies and enjoys playing the part of a helpless, beautiful glamour girl. On the other hand, her music is gorgeous and evokes some strange nostalgic texture that I'm in love with. "Video Games" was a big part of my life during some very difficult and strange times. This album (and Ultraviolence) are really remarkable.

Not their best work, but who cares? Bleach set Nirvana up for success and I actually really enjoy this record. You can really hear fading remnants of the metal hair bands in "School" right when sounds were really starting to change, which is probably why it's one of my favorite songs - they were making pivotal music at a time before the silly term "grunge" even existed. Me, 14 years old. 8th grade. 1994. I discover alternative rock and it chanegd my whole world. This album becomes my anthem that summer. I can still see the poster in my bedroom and the moment I hear the snare drums start on Cherub Rock I'm instantly transported back to that time. Still an absolute favorite.

It's been on my to do list for a LONG time to really dig into REM's catalog. Thanks to my favorites, Scott (Aukerman) and (Adam) Scott's podcast I finally had a good excuse to finally do it. Nightswimming is such a gorgeous song I get goosebumps just typing the title. Come on...it's just so good.

Newer album but it was an instant classic for me. Shoegaze just gets me all sorts of happy and I'm sad I didn't listen to them prior to this album before this came out. Sugar For The Pill goes on my "Songs I'll Never Tire Of" list.

This album starts and ends in a way that gives me full body goosebumps. I don't think I listened to anything other than this album really for a good month or so. I don't know how she manages to be such a magical human but I 100% appreciate it.

There's nothing more impressive than two people who can find magic together in their voices. My wife and I have spent many evenings singing these songs at the top of our lungs. Favorite track: Two of Us On the Run.

This album came out while my grandmother was dying, which was obviously fitting since it's about him losing his mom. It swallowed me whole. Every single song is perfect from start to finish.

Fun, poppy, essential early 90s Radiohead, before they got super experimental. Every song is gold.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.5/100, a mean average of 85.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.6.

Good chart, but wouldn't Her Majesty not be what it is if it were longer?
