In The Jungle Groove
Innervisions
There's A Riot Goin' On (Sly not YLT)
Hot Buttered Soul
Rejuvination - The Meters
Baby Huey's A Living Leg-end
What's Goin' On?
Superfly
Spirit Of The Boogie - Kool & The Gang
The Many Facets Of Roger (Troutman). Because we all love a bit of Rogering first thing in the morning...

Of course if Rocksteady could be included On Top by The Heptones beats the lot.

Honorable mention to Honki Ponki.

Singles? Got loads of 'em. Send me a PM and I'll knock yer lights out (in fact my favourite single this year is a soul track...)

Roger Troutman is a true god. Still can't believe he has been dead for almost 20 years.

I'm pretty sure this song has made me cry a couple times. So beautiful. I love this genre and thank you all so much for making it shine here in this thread.

Mate that title track is FIRE! I've got some Rapso in my collection oddly enough (Brother Resistance's Rapso Take Over) but that cut is all kinds of ace. Cheers for the tip.

I've been thinking about this thread (I know, sad git eh?) and there's so much stuff I wanted to stick in that Top 10, but ended up coming round to the tried and trusted classics, mainly as given the nature of the competition some lesser-known corkers would end up getting lost in the ether. As it is, there's no room for Norma Jean & Ray J's Raising Hell, Willie Hutch's Soul Portrait, William DeVaughn's Be Thankful For What You've Got, NuYorican Soul S/T, Rick James' Street Songs, some disco (Tommy Stewart, Cloud One, Alfredo De La Fe) and gospel (Edwin Hawkins, Andrew Wartts, Pastol TL Barrett) nuggets and a whole heap of funk from Africa. Ho-hum, maybe I'll reboot my diary and ramble on about them aimlessly, especially as it was only yesterday whilst I was on Portobello Road I picked up one of the greatest soul compys I've ever heard - Eddie & Ernie's Time Waits For No One.

Hell, I might just drop the lot of 'em in Plug and let you all bust some shapes instead...

Here are the top 10 finalists for the R&B/Soul Genre Olympics.

Wow - this was quite the competition. Quite a few great runners up, but here are the top ten! (also found in OP now)

Next steps are for anyone and everyone to rank the following albums (even if you didn't submit during the original semi-finalist rounds). See OP on how the point system works (#1 weighted with 10 points and #10 with 1 point). Many of you have given commentary on why you love the albums you do, but as you vote, it might be fun to say what you love about each album. Enjoy!

Star Time by James Brown

Shame that two JB compilations are taking up two slots -- practically every track of one of them is on the other -- when Otis Redding, P-Funk etc. didn't make the cut. Especially when Stevie Wonder and Sly are already taking up two slots apiece. I'd be willing to throw my vote to In the Jungle Groove for the sake of giving attention to more artists. Also (this hadn't occurred to me before), though most participants probably have heard at least half the songs on Star Time, if even one or two haven't, asking them to listen to most of a 4-CD set is a lot to expect.
