I love this album to death but I rarely listen to it because whenever I do it just ruins my day. This album is the definition of a swansong.

Cash's goodbye to the world. It's a harrowing, sad, and reflective. I will never not be emotional listening to this great album

A brilliant covers album. I prefer Cash's versions of Hurt and Personal Jesus to the originals, and his takes on The Man Comes Around, I Hung My Head and Streets of Late so are all great.

He really does a good job covering these great songs, but I actually prefer Trent Razor's Hurt version (the original one).

Great disco, and great production by Rick Rubin.
I don't like: too much compression.

Most of the songs on this that Cash had done before were better the first time around (his voice is really going here). But his tackling of songs like Bridge Over Troubled Water and Personal Jesus make this a pretty unique entry in the Cash catalog. Hurt is obviously the centerpiece, and that along with We'll Meet Again evoke genuine emotion with the benefit of hindsight.

Amazing. Even desperado sounds like one of the best songs ever a thousand times better than the eagles could even imagine. His voice breaking just makes it even better
