Mediocre is right. It's far from great, but far from awful either. Unfortunately the worst tracks here are probably the singles, "I'm A Slave 4 U" which I find pretty annoying, and "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" which is only mildly annoying. Some of these songs (like the cover of "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" which is alright but not that great of a song in the first place) included on the soundtrack of the film "Crossroads" sure didn't help that movie, either. Cinderella is probably my favorite track here, and even that is just alright. Overall, not interesting or bad enough to deserve a bad rating, just forgettable. (Edited)

Underwhelming and pretty much fails as a "I've grown up" album ("In The Zone" does a better job of that), but "Britney" is not without its merits. Slave 4 U is a decent lead single and Overprotected is a bit of a bop.
I'd be lying if I said this was a bad pop album; it's decent enough & songs like "Overprotected" are genuinely good songs. She hadn't fully matured yet, we see that in her next two albums, but this marks a halfway step of sorts. Not without its merits.
A below average pop album by a below average singer.
