Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.7/100, a mean average of 64.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 64.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.9.

The ugly duckling of the Bad Religion discography... that even made the band break up for awhile. Well it's not THAT bad, but it's definitely strange. There are foundations of good songs here. But the instrumentation (most notably the synth) and musical style ("prog"?) are weird. I'm not just saying that because they are known as a punk rock band. I think this would be weird even if this band were unknown. The quirky style will appeal to some people, but for me (and apparently the band itself), it just doesn't work. I wouldn't say it's "bad" exactly, but it's just too weird, drifting from prog rock to almost folk music at times and all over the place. I've heard some of these songs on guitar, and the first two tracks especially can be good when they don't have the synthesizer. "Time And Disregard" is the hardest of the bunch to sit through, and "Million Days" is pretty rough as well. The rest is just OK. A few fans surely love this album, and some might hate it, but I've heard way better and also way worse. For me, it's just a curiosity in the long history of the band.
