Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.6/100, a mean average of 71.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.0.

Took me a surprisingly long time to get around to this one, considering I've been listening to the rest of the 1970-1975 Elton John discography for years, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Probably could cut this down to a single album and have a really strong record, but this is pretty good as is. The hit Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word is good, but Tonight, One Horse Town, Chameleon, Crazy Water, and especially Cage the Songbird are all better. Would probably round out the hypothetical single album with Out of the Blue (compelling, proggy instrumental), If There's a God in Heaven (biting lyrical tune with a great contrast in its upbeat sound), Idol (downbeat and jazzy), and Bite Your Lip (fun, funky romp to close the record). A little inconsistent, but generally enjoyable.
There is something great on this album, worth a listen!
The last of his great 70s era albums.
Blue Moves is the best album Elton John's ever made. Best song: One Horse Town.
A much maligned album but the best tracks stand among EJ's best:
Cage The Songbird
Chamleon
Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word
Between Seventeen and Twenty
Tonight
Idol
One Horse Town
Not on par with the rest of his peak period.
A slightly unfocused and indulgent LP. Blue moves, is one of the final few albums of Elton John's artistic peak. It's a bit of a messy affair, but always interesting, and contains possibly Elton John's most beautiful ballad, sorry seems to be the hardest word. The album is worth it for that song alone. All in all, inconsistent fun.
A very under rated record, not Elton's best but worth repeated listens.
Blue Moves is not a bad album, but it should never have been a double album. There's more filler here than substance, but some really cool songs nonetheless. "Chameleon" and "Boogie Pilgrim" are both great and interesting songs.
