I thought those earlier “experiments” of them were because they were just bad songwriters and they thought “let’s just trick people into thinking we’re avant-garde by improvising some bullshit” (“look, it’s working”). But it appears they can actually write some nice songs. That is: nice, not incredible. But the most annoying thing is how the music doesn’t seem to follow the singing: like he starts singing more energetic as if he’s going to the bridge or so and the band just does the same thing and everything just sounds completely disjointed.

From badger
I think during the period where I was listening to Revolver a lot I was also eating a lot of treacle tart because listening to it always gives me a faint taste of treacle tart. The other thing is Columbo, as a kid I would watch Columbo every Sunday morning after coming home from swimming lessons and I would snack on garlic bread. Columbo tastes like garlic bread. I always thought 'Columbo Tastes Like Garlic Bread' would be a good name for a Flaming Lips song or something.

Anyway, Strawberry Jam doesn't taste of strawberry jam. But it does sound like strawberry jam. The textures are thick and intricate, somehow warm, fluid and metallic at the same time underneath a fuzzy coating. Digging deeper into the songs uncovers some brilliant songwriting with playful, almost childlike melody at its core. This album kinda sounds like tasting the strawberry jam in a donut or slice of cake someone put in a goody bag for you after their fancy dress birthday party when you're 8 years old. It's nice

Another album that adds to AC's discography, further showcasing that they were one of the best artists in the 2000's.

MPP is only slightly better. This is still one that helps cement them as one of the most essential bands of the decade.

Anco at their most catchiest and accessible. Take Feels, filter it through their sonic experimentations of Danse Manatee and other earlier works. It's messy, it's fun but it's nothing special. Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished is the far superior album. The stretch from For Reverend Green, to Fireworks is quite nice and is the reason I bumped this from 5.5 to 6/10

Just doesn't do it for me. Feels like I'm listening to some sort of alien transmission. I can admire the craftsmanship, but it don't mean I gotta like it.
