Many tracks here are better than the studio versions, including virtually all of the songs from Around the Sun, especially Final Straw and the title track. But the song that startled me the most was The One I Love. This version blows the original out of the water. Overall it's very good, but not great. I think the band knew it too... that's why they followed up only two years later with another Live at the Olympia - which is fantastic.
Very enjoyable live album(the DVD is even better)from REM's, around the sun, tour. It's all a lot of fun but without the visuals of the DVD it's nothing more than okay. It's hard to make a great live album and there's certainly nothing wrong with this but watch the DVD, that's how you get the full power of the show.
Great live performers. Here the Around the Sun tracks sounds much better than the studio version. Excellent versions of I Took Your Name and Walk Unafraid. The classics remain wonderful.
