Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 91.8/100, a mean average of 89.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 91.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

One of my favourite albums of all time, possibly my number one. Radiohead's best album period. Every song start to finish speaks to me, the sound is provoking, the melody is so great and the social commentary makes this perfect.

Kind of surprised to see this at #1 but it is a very special album. So many strong tracks and a great flow. Captures the band at their peak with so much creative juice flowing. Love how they move towards a more experimental electronic sound but keep the guitars at the core. Some real brilliant standalone tracks too.

That’s a terrible take on a much loved, highly revered album. Shame on you Captain Plain! Not only are you denigrating a masterpiece by concensus, but you’re also implicating the admirers as being unfit for music appreciation. Crawl back into your insular world of self-proclaimed all-knowingness and leave the critiquing to those with real insight.

Pure rage bait.

Shortlisted for album of the year at the 1997 Mercury Music Prize. The winner was New Forms by Roni Size & Reprezent. This album would have got my vote

I have been listening to this record for 27 years now and it still smashes me every time I hear it. Stunning, and it is not even my favorite Radiohead record.

From the first hearing on you can recognize that there is something special with this album. But the best ever? Never.
