This is the pop gem Brenden Benson wished he could pen and almost became lost in all the male, solo, indie-pop albums that continued to roll out from 2005 into 2006. Ignore he's barely out of his teens, this is frolicking, in-crush-with-you 80s pop by the way of Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" which will leave you smiling contrary to the unrequited love underneath. "Penny on the Train Track" is a candidate for song of the year. If that or the opener "Run" doesn't draw you in, you might as well give up pop altogether.
