Going in search of that Spoon album that would finally turn me onto the band I landed here on their highest ranked release and came up disappointed. Spoon remind me a lot of the band Elbow in terms of being critically acclaimed and having a large dedicated fan base with the music being neat and competent but ultimately just okay with nothing particularly terrible nor knock your socks off amazing either. In fact I enjoyed their 2022 latest album significantly more than this one (Edited)
This is a good album, that really shines in places. Tracks like Don't You Evah and The Underdog are some of the groups best ever tracks. The variation of instrumentation is also very beneficial to the listener as it keeps the album fresh. However, it just feels like it is missing an edge to the music. It feels plain and empty in places and like the songs could be flushed out a bit more. There are quite a few average tracks as well which is worrying as it is only 36 minutes long. Overall, an album I enjoyed but I don't think it is that good but I may change my opinion after a few more listens.
Didn't think it was anything too special but it still had it's fair share of good songs but mostly just wasn't into much of it. It's was an easy listen though clocking in at 36 quick minutes. Absolutely loved "Don't You Evah" totally makes the album worth a listen. 7/10
The magnum opus from an indie group that has always defied convention. Brilliant.
