Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.2/100, a mean average of 78.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

This album is the one that is most like his debut. But this is so luch better. Great songs, great arrangements an always great singing. One of Vans five best and they are all masterpieces.

The third album that is tied for Van Morrison's greatest. Seems a little more upbeat than before. Just pure poetry, and the guy could swing.

Sad that he didn't do much after the 70s...

This is the sunniest collection from a master, and this album is also notable for the restraint he exercises here - no song is longer than four minutes. I love the opening of "Starting a New Life"...."when I hear that robin sing, well, I know it's coming on spring..." Later in the album he sings "Twenty-third of December Covered in snow/ You in the kitchen With the lights way down low/ I'm in the parlor playing my old guitar/ Speaking to you, darling, to find out how you are" Those two instances alone would make this the lightest Van on record but then there is Cannonball and Evening Sun and Moonshine Whiskey. The title track is a gorgeous love song very comparable to Crazy Love and you have to agree that Wild Night is one of his best ever singles. And for all those highlights there is not one skippable track on the rest of this. Underrated, oh yes.

Pure greatness yet again. Van Morrison may have been the best artist of them all at this point in time as everything he turned out was of top quality.

The song, "Tupelo Honey" is one of the best songs of the 1970s, perfect arrangement. It gives the lyrics space to unfold. I have always really liked it, my favorite Van song.
