Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. This album is great! I never would have listened to Miranda Lambert as I thought she was going to be new country schlock. Then I heard the Marfa Tapes and I thought maybe I should giver her a chance. Then I found out Natalie Hemby is her songwriting partner. Then I decided I judged too quickly. So, I have been listening to her catalog and there is a lot of good stuff in it. I haven't gotten through everything yet, but this was my favorite so far. It is really, really good. As others have commented, almost every song is a winner.
The greatest country album of all time (according to my listening).
Excellent record start to finish with very little filler. Highlights include Maintain the Pain, House that Built Me and Dead Flowers.
