Do you know the light, childlike feeling in "today" or "thirty-three" from the smashing pumpkins? That essence is captured here now'n'then to perfection. They also embody the water lily fluid feel of the essex green. I'm also a sucker for the shimmering guitar, like the one that shows up on the opener "lately", a faux dispassionate relationship post-mortem ("living alone, i don't need you anymore, lately"). And on the next track, he's still in denial believing "even if you wanted to, you can't say no". The joker emanates from his lonely voice and his "captive mind" as he spends "the night in someone else's arms" on "shed your light". A good disc for the unrequited.
