Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 54.9/100, a mean average of 53.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 53.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 26.5.

History will look more kindly on this album than its current rank of #3821. Solid alternative rock radio tunes and honestly, it’s fairly emotional. I revisit this album every year or two and am always pleased.

I really enjoyed their debut. But honestly, this band really is regressive in quality.

I've listened to most of the songs of this album quite a couple of times ever since I bought it last Sunday, but I'm going to be rating this in the next few days, I'll listen to it over and over and then I'll also rate the tracks from this album, but so far, some of the songs are quite interesting.

Creed is another band that doesn't quite deserve all the crap they get. No, they're not the most original band ever, but it's worth noting that this grunge-influenced sound was very out of style at the time. There wasn't much else like this on the radio in the late 90s, so we didn't mind hearing a little Creed now and then. A really great album.
