Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.6/100, a mean average of 66.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.4.

I found this a bit to similar throughout. It's not bad but it has nothing that sets it apart from the pack. Pleasantly mediocre

On balance, Sam's Town is probably better. But there's a lot of really fun tunes here - the first 3-4 songs are all fantastic. I particularly the middle portion of that run, with the lead single Human (a surprisingly moving dancefloor raver) and the catchy and fun Spaceman. I like the slightly more cosmic flavour to the synths here, and the diversity of genres they dabble in whilst still being The Killers. There are some silly lyrics, or lyrics that sound silly on a first listen - the aforementioned lead single's chorus of "Are we human?/Or are we dancer?" being one such example. But if Paul McCartney can get away with silly lyrics, I think Brandon Flowers should get a pass too. Not that Macca and Brandon are on the same level - but still... meaning and emotion in music *can* be communicated through lyrics, but they don't have to be: equally viable are melodies, harmony, instrumentation and production. I think that even with the dafter lyrics, the band sells it through elements such as these, as well as the fact that they completely believe in what they're doing. Conviction goes a long way!
EDIT: I've listened twice more to this album since yesterday. It's now very close to Sam's Town out of the first three. Sam's Town is possibly a better straight-through listen, but I am absolutely obsessed with some of the songs on this one to a degree that I'm not with any song on Sam's Town. Particularly Spaceman (so catchy and I love the way Brandon sings it), and I Can't Stay (ditto) are stuck in my head and I want to put them on repeat every time I hear them. Some other great tracks, with lesser highlights all the way through - not much filler. But those two tracks are like heroin for me right now.
Big step down from Hot Fuss and Sam's Town. The lead single, Human, is a great song. Joy Ride and I Can't Stay are pleasant too, but I found the rest of the album very boring.
By far The Killers' most concise album. Even though the highs are not as high as their previous 2 albums, the lows aren't as low either, making for a much better listen.
Favorite tracks:
1) A Dustland Fairytale (my favorite The Killers song)
2) Losing Touch
3) This is Your Life

Their weakest album. Still so much fun, one of the rare bands that I'm always in the right mood to listen to, and this album is no exception.

What's the point of having a music-rating site when everyone just rates everything the same? I'm truly surprised about this album. I was expecting a very very bad album and got a very enjoyable experience. The songs themselves are not that great but I don't know, I got a good time out of it and I would listen to it again in full. There are much better records out there and The Killers have 2 much better albums but this is fun and I like fun. I would give this a 7/10 but I'll be honest with myself and give it a 7.5 because it made me smile throughout.

Such a step up from Sam's Town which I consider to be a huge misstep for them (save for Bones and When We Were Young). This is a solid, well structured album and I Can't Stay may just be my favorite song ever by them
After the brilliance of, hot fuss, and, Sam's town, this came as a major disappointment. Only, human, is up there with the quality of material on those first two albums. The beginning of the end for the Killers.

Favoritas: Human, Neon Tiger, Spaceman, A Dustland Fairytale
