Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.3/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.8.

Honestly, a lot of my favourite albums this year have been made by ageing artists. Here are a few favourites: Nothing Can Stop Us by Cornell Campbell They're not all comebacks (although you could certainly describe many of them as such), but they are all dope.

Awesome live album from a quartet at the peak of their powers. The spontaneity is so refreshing repeatedly throughout this album, with songs feeling like they could go off in a thousand different directions at any one given time. This is also a truly collaborative record, with each of the players given ample space to do their thing and yet maintaining a oneness from start to finish. It also straddles the traditional/experimental line perfectly, feeling at once familiar and still completely fresh. A great jazz album.
