Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.6/100, a mean average of 74.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

If there is one thing that They Might Be Giants is good at, it’s making really catchy, non-sensical songs. They continue to do this on “Nanobots", an album very similar to their older album “Apollo 18" in that the album is 25 tracks long but only clocks in at about 45 minutes total. Many of the tracks are under 30 seconds long, which is pretty typical of a They Might Be Giants album. Just about all of the songs are ridiculously catchy and mean almost nothing lyrically, which again, is pretty typical of They Might Be Giants. You’ve got funny, odd songs like “Call You Mom" and “You’re On Fire" and they’re all fun to listen to. I would say that’s what They Might Be Giants seem to be about more than anything, is making an album that’s fun to listen to. It may be goofy or strange, but ultimately it’s fun. Some of the songs on this album are just ok, but there are certainly some classic They Might Be Giants songs on here.
