Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 11% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.6/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.5.

Great Alt/punk with a SoCal punk rock vibe added. Very consistent right through. For an album with 14 tracks, there's not really any filler. One of the better from this genre and era.

Blown away the first time I heard this record, as soon as I got hooked, I had to buy all the sheet music online. I have never heard anyone make chords function in the way that Art Alexakis does. Every Chord is Major. The use of the II chord is present in nearly every track, WTF??? There are also prevalent III chords, and VI chords. Heroin Girl starts like it is through written and then sinks into a fast bII-I-bVI-bIII-II-I-BVI-bIII riff "esther used to be the kind of lover you would never leave". Subject matter is about relationships, drug use, and you have this sort of small town trailer trash angst going on, like he has something to say and will just pour it out on his guitar.

I think this is their best record. Nicely produced with some great songs. It's held up well over time.

I read a comment about Everclear being post grunge crap. That's a load of crap. Great guitars and Art's voice make them instantly recognizable. Their first two albums are great listens.

Better than Matchbox 20. Much better in fact. Nothing groundbreaking, but a knack for strong lyrics and clever hooks.

CONTEXT: Everclear's 2nd album set the tone for post-grunge alternative rock. Not a classic, but still has charm and has aged better than expected. MUSIC: The group plays loose and aggressive, with layers of guitar and impressive drumming. Not enough hooks to sustain consistent quality, but great charisma. LYRICS: The references to drug abuse and a desire to get clean (in both chemical and relationship dependence) stand out. HIGHLIGHTS: Santa Monica, Strawberry

A great lazy midsummer album. Unlike their other material, this isn't corny. I think there's only one song about being a dad. My favorite tracks are "Heroin Girl" and "My Sexual Life".
