Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.0/100, a mean average of 68.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.9.

I love the title track, "Dirty Second Hands," and "4:12." "Awakening" is pretty good and so is "Circles," "Amateur Lovers" is almost bad enough to ruin the album. (Edited)
This is probably Switchfoot's best album (this or Nothing Is Sound). There are some truly great songs here: Circles, Dirty Second Hands, Burn Out Bright, 4:12. It can get a little cheesy sometimes (like in any Switchfoot album), but all in all this is probably their most (or 2nd most) consistent album.
"Oh! Gravity" is their magnum opus. While "The Beautiful Letdown" had their hits, OG is overall their best work. Each song is creative and extraordinary. Switchfoot goes outside of the box in their songwriting and demonstrates incredible ability which clearly displays why they made their way into the mainstream world. "Circles" and "Faust, Midas, and Myself" are brief musical adventures. Every track on this record is unique in its own right. "American Dream" is one of my all-time favourite songs.
With OG, Switchfoot has created a work of art. Listen to it, and have your expectations blown away by how fantastic each and every song is. This is Switchfoot at their best.
