Damn! I am obsessed with this album! Yeah, this is a very sexually intense record, but that doesn't bother me! I like this experimental approach to pop music. If future pop albums follow in the footsteps of this gem, I have faith in the future of mainstream music!
I wish I had been a Bey fan when this album dropped. I can't believe more people haven't followed suit with the visual album. It really highlights every track and obscures the singles. Every song is important, which can't be said for every pop/r&b album

Ever since she left destiny's child, i haven't been much of a beyonce fan. There was a certain synergy between her and kelly rowland (and the couple other 3rd wheels) that jibed well for me. There was also a certain uniqueness of tempo, cadence and style that carried over to her solo work, but i just haven't been as fond of it, probably in part as i walked further from pop into indie music territory. But anyway, she has redefined her sound a bit as there's quite a stylistic range across these 14 tracks and the style change works to varying degrees. There are some dubstep-like (or weeknd-like) soundscapes in the background a la drake's latest album that really sound good, definitely not the typical r&b sound. Ok, maybe it's becoming the new r&b/hip-hop production, but still, this works well. And her singing never goes over-the-top and often sounds earth-bound, tied to her own life, more than previously. The personal touch works as well. It's good to be back in beyonce's good graces.
A genius album from a genius artist. I don't think honestly recognize how much of a diamond in the rough Beyonce is. I am by no means a fan of top 40 music agenda stuff, but as far as that kind of stuff goes, Beyonce reigns supreme. She somehow manages to stay relevant in that world while simultaneously creating some of the most creative work. The woman's a genius and a truly, truly talented singer.
