"Cotton-Eye Joe" is a banger of a meme song, but what about the album it's from? I decided to find out.
The 2nd track "Hittin' the Hay" is more of the same, but not quite as catchy as Joe.
The 3rd "Riding Alone" tries to follow the europop/redneck theme, but again not as good, and I'm wondering if the whole album is like this - which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing (spoiler: nope, it gets worse).
Track 4 "Wish You Were Here" is like, an actual country song. Not that great, but not terrible either. It's alright.
Track 5 is where things go off the rails. Terrible redneck goofiness that just keeps repeating. Get used to that. Because 5,7,9, and 10 are all terrible.
Track 6 is just "Cotton Eyed-Joe" with slightly different words that rhyme with it? WTF.
8 has a funny title, and is actually OK, and mildly amusing.
11 "McKenzie Brothers" is just narrating a story for over 4 minutes. I don't know if it is supposed to be funny but I stopped paying attention.
12 "Rolling Home" is again just a normal country song, which is alright
13 "Wild N Free" was used in the movie Barnyard. It has certain amusement value and is a meme song itself.
----
Overall, maybe not quite as bad as I expected, but pretty bad especially in the middle. The formula should have been 90% Europop, 10% Redneck, but it's often the other way around, with over-the-top stereotype redneck music and the singing is pretty bad too. Check out tracks 1,2,13 for the memes, 4,8,12 for country, and skip all the rest.
