A bit of a departure from their first two albums, The Back Room and An End Has A Start, to a more electronic sound. And it didn't really work for me. Although I do like Bricks And Mortar - great song.

On their third album, Editors shifts away from the the dark post-punk music they are primarily known for and takes a step towards new wave. The guitars are replaced by synthesizers, the irregular drum beats with the regular beating of a drum machine. While this means that the band effectively renews it sounds and offers a record of fresh-sounding songs, it also means that some of the charm surrounding their music is gone. Other than "Papillon" and "You Don't Know Love" there are no songs that stand out the way several songs did on the previous two albums. The first half delves deeply into new wave territory, while the second half is closer to post-punk. This half also suffers from overlong songs devoid of good hooks and memorable choruses, "Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool" being the sole exception.
They ditched guitars for synths. The result? Their best album IMO.
It maybe not be as rock as their first two albums but there's still great interesting tunes here.
