Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 77.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.0.

In 1987 the band sent out a 17 track tape to various record companies including 4AD who picked them up. This tape became known as 'The Purple Tape' of which 8 of the songs would make up their debut album 'Come On Pilgrim'. The remaining 9 tracks were officially released in 2002 on this album. Several of the tracks were later re-recorded for Surfer Rosa and you also get a very early version of 'Here Comes Your Man' which finally appeared on Doolittle.

The original 17 track listing was as follows:

1. Levitate Me
2. The Holiday Song
3. I've Been Tired
4. Break My Body
5. Down To The Well
6. Rock A My Soul
7. I'm Amazed
8. Build High
9. In Heaven
10. Caribou
11. Here Comes Your Man
12. Subbacultcha
13. Vamos
14. Broken Face
15. Nimrod's Son
16. Isla De Encanta
17. Ed Is Dead
