Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.0/100, a mean average of 66.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.3.

Other than the 'best of' CD, this is the first 'proper' Thompson Twins album I I have owned, however 'Into the Gap' is en-route as I type!
So I now have the red vinyl spinning as I type and how does it sound? Excellent!
Tight rhythms, cool grooves, great synth brass and string textures.

Over three albums these guys turned out some classic synth pop/rock classics. As with many of the eighties bands, a big sound by a few musicians.

More polished than the preceeding TT albums - for more polished you could read over-produced. Personally I prefer the earlier stuff. This was the last of the 'classic' 3 twin line-up. It's a bit twee in places, and someone I know reckons Thompson Twins would only be 'acceptable in the 80's'. Probably need to be a TT fan to enjoy this - there's nothing new on here but some decent songs.
