Excellent mid eighties synth rock album featuring some classic tracks. I like all the music on this album, difficult to pick out favourites. I always think that this was an immediate follow on from 'Don't You Forget About Me', a track which I don't believe was actually featured originally on any album other than later compilations. It would have sat well on this album.

One of the best synth pop/rock albums of all time. This sits at the top of my synth pop/rock tree with Alphaville 'Forever Young' and Thomson Twins 'The Gap'. The music here as with the other two albums is much more than pop. You only have to listen to the instrumentation to hear this. As an added bonus I have a mint copy on clear vinyl!

If you play any instruments, you will know when listening to this album, what a great bass guitarist Mark King is/was, I don't know whether he still plays?
I actually think he was a great vocalist too and quite different from the other eighties synth rock/pop bands.
This album takes me back to hot summers on local beaches in Cornwall followed up by memorable late nights clubbing...
Happy memories triggered by what I consider to be a happy album. [First added to this chart: 04/01/2021]

This is a superb album which leans more towards prog than pop in my opinion. 'Shout' is an excellent upbeat opener but the second track may come as a surprise with the sax and synth texture intro which lays the foundation for a superb vocal not dissimilar to the vocal delivery of Silent Running's Peter Gamble. When I listen to this album I hear elements of Wham, Spandau Ballet, Silent Running and Level 42.

Some great tracks on this eighties synth pop/soft rock album. 'Black Man Ray' and 'King in a Catholic Style' are personal favourites. Have seen these guys live twice, both times on the money, excellent performances with some stand up comedy thrown in as a bonus!

The vinyl re-issue is excellent. Production is top notch as would be expected. For those interested in sampling history, it is very possible Yello created the largest Fiarlight sample library known to mankind! Yello created some very clever music, some of which is just sound textures over a driving beat but by hell it worked! Highly recommended to any Electronic Music Genre guru.

Great new wave, electro pop album from the man who brought the Jupiter 8 to my attention. Howard Jones is a very underrated musician. Having seen him open a concert on a grand piano, it makes one realise what hidden talents lie under the surface. If I am having an eighties vinyl evening (and often do!) this album will be one of the ones I pull out of the rack. Great artist live, bit like a good port, seems to get even better as he matures.

This album still sounds fresh today, some twenty plus years after it was produced. It is worth owning for Don't Bang the Drum and Whole of The Moon alone!

An excellent mid eighties pop/soft rock album that offered an alternative to a lot of the purely synth led bands/artists of the era. Prefab Sprout were excellent musicians but also offered a unique harmony between the male and females vocals of Paddy McAloon and Wendy Smith. 'When Love Breaks Down' and 'Appetite' are particular favourites of mine.

Other than the 'best of' CD, this is the first 'proper' Thompson Twins album I I have owned, however 'Into the Gap' is en-route as I type!
So I now have the red vinyl spinning as I type and how does it sound? Excellent!
Tight rhythms, cool grooves, great synth brass and string textures.
Over three albums these guys turned out some classic synth pop/rock classics. As with many of the eighties bands, a big sound by a few musicians. [First added to this chart: 03/28/2021]
