Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

It may all end tomorrow
Or it could go on forever
In which case I'm doomed
Seriously inconsistent; enigmatic yet likable; the last person you'd want to be associated with in real life, but an artist who's music is sometimes the only thing you need.
For all of the difficulty of liking him, when Steven Patrick Morrissey has hit the mark, he's managed to make some of the best music of the last 30 years.
A true lyrical genius. Not as good without Marr but everything he's done is worth listening too.
Single greatest figure in the history of British independent music. Numbers 1 through 6 on the site are all worth having, though Viva Hate/Education in Reverse (much prefer the original title!) and Vauxhall and I clearly his best. Bona Drag is one of the all time great compilation albums, maybe even preferable to Louder Than Bombs. Of the rest the recently restored version of South Paw Grammer is worth hunting down. Avoid the 95 original.
His solo work is good but his work with the Smiths is much better by far.
Morrissey is one of my all time favorite artists. He has amazing lyrics, a great voice, and a hilarious personality. I have heard all most all of his music and I do not understand how anyone can hate him.
Morrissey is, was and probably always will be a Lyrical God. So much wit and clever word play that others can only aspire to.

Though I'm not a big fan of The Smiths, I'd say Morrissey's much much much much much more than a singer. He's someone that you can really call a VOCALIST. I guess he's the most beautiful male voice that I've heard in non-classical music scene.
Morrissey rules!! Lyrical genius!!
