This is a record that needs to be listened to in small doses, because to me it is the record that best conveys total sadness and isolation. Elliott's vocals sound so tortured and haunting that you empathize with his sorrow in a way that isn't possible with any other artist. The ending passage of "A Passing Feeling" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music of all time. And with songs like "King's Crossing" painting a vulgar and sorrowful picture of Elliott's demonic problems with narcotics and loneliness, it makes it all the more painful knowing that he was so close to getting to the light at the end of the tunnel.
