Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. I’m really surprised I overlooked this chart.
Although I do disagree with some choices — for instance I feel that O.Rang captured much more of the power of Talk Talk’s last few albums than Hollis’ solo work — such inclusions as David Thomas Broughton, The Unthanks, Tindersticks, Emmanuelle Parrenin, June Tabor and Current 93 are rare here but mostly very worthwhile. I also like how it is not obscure for the sake of it.

How can a chart with Nico at no. 1 get less than 90? And I am happy to see, that I am not alone in liking Bowie’s Space Oddity best. And it is good to see Kevin Ayers. You should think twice about Genesis, though :-)

I became familiar with your profile through your incredibly impressive ambient chart, and your overall chart is no less impressive.
Really love how diverse the picks are in terms of both nationality and genre, Spirit Of Eden, Chelsea Girl and Illinois are just a couple of shared favourites whilst Trance Frenz and Diamond Mine are two beautiful records I've been turned to because of you, will definitely trawl through for future recommendations!
Some notes to some of the albums is all that is needed for a perfect score from me :)
