The Stones' best music in my opinion was made with Mick Taylor. The superb bluesly licks that filled Sticky Fingers and others are unrivaled. However Jagger and Richards were at a songwriting peak with Let it Bleed, putting down incredibly dark and rocking tracks such as Midnight Rambler and Gimme' Shelter. Whilst they were on the road to becoming better musicians, they have never challenged the superb songs of Let it Bleed.

The Stones at their fastest and dirtiest. Richards and Jagger writing some great tunes, and a feeling of a very raw album that is rightly many people's favourite Stones album. A sprawlingly brilliant mess of an album; its length is partly what makes it so great. Richards singing Happy is a particular highlight, but there are many other highlights and too many to mention.

This Stones album often gets written off, and I don't quite know why, because it's such as strong collection of songs. Mick Taylor still plays some fluid solos, most notably on Time Waits for No One, and Jagger and Richards are firing on all cylinders. A good way for Taylor to bow out and in my view is the closing album to the Stones' best phase. However they still came out with some great stuff afterwards.

The Stones, in my view at their best with their instruments on record. Mick Taylor's delicious licks on Dead Flowers and Can't You Hear Me Knocking are great. Jagger and Richards on top songwriting form, but the playing is what makes this album so good.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 5% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.6/100, a mean average of 89.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

Really like the way you put forward your opinions on these albums, the detail for each entry is a nice touch!
I think maybe the only thing this chart is lacking (and partly why 50% of the entries are from the 70s) is more diversity in terms of genre; under Marquee Moon you mention Verlaine's appreciation for jazz whilst no jazz picks crack your top 50, whilst could the lack of albums from this century be possibly down to the absence of more modern forms of electronic music and hip hop? Overall a lovely chart, seems like it hasn't been touched in a while, would be very interested to see if your thoughts on it has changed!

Not gonna lie, I listen to Lou Reed more than any other musician as well. I'm curious what you think of Lulu. It's on of his top 10 for me.

Huh. Would you describe yourself as... much of a Lou Reed fan, by chance?

Great chart. Love Lou Reed but maybe too much Lou for a top 50. Fisherman's Blues in the top ten is great. A beautiful album! Good job
