Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.7/100, a mean average of 83.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 11.6.

Hello mandro. I just noticed your comment on my page from last month. Thanks about the comments about "bigging up" of undervalued albums. I'm a big fan of undervalued albums as you may have guessed :0). Talking of them I don't quite know what it's about but I do think that the wonderfully playful Smile is Brian Wilsons masterpiece and easily stands up against Pet Sounds as such. Then again, I'd have Pet Sounds too if it was a list of a hundred albums :0D.

About Arctic Monkeys, yes! It seems they've regressed since then. specially with their last album. and Mandro, I like your classical rock taste and your chart also would be one of my references about it!

You should definitely try In the Court of the Crimson King, that's a timeless classic and a masterpiece, and maybe Red. The other albums you should get only if you're a King Crimson fan.
