All four of the Velvets records are superb. Some may argue that White Light/ White Heat is more of a showcase of what they were all about, away from the Exploding Plastic Inevitable, Warhol and Nico. However here they showcase both sides of their genius, the simple touching ballads like Femme Fatale and I'll Be Your Mirror, and the dirty loud distorted animal found on White Light/White Heat, on songs such as Heroin, Venus in Furs and European Son to name a few. Then to have Nico's unique vocals is a superb addition to the few songs she features on. And once again behind it all Reed's stunningly direct, observational lyrics are pure genius.

The most beautiful harmonies ever put to a pop record, closely followed by Pet Sounds. However the songs are incredibly strong as well, great political comment at times, and tender love songs at other times. There are not many songs in the world that can compete with Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Stills' instrumentation is superb as well, take the raw guitar solo on Wooden Ships, it doesn't get much more perfect than this, as far as albums come.

What an album. Two genius' come back to make an album that is worthy of anything they had done before. The songs are beautiful, Cale and Reed at their best in their tribute to their mentor. "There's no stars in the New York sky they're all on the ground."

One of the finest pop-rock records made. So well known and with good reason, all three songwriters are on the top of their game and Nicks and McVie's vocals are amazing. Lindsey Buckingham remains one of the most underrated guitar players. A classic for a good reason.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 5% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.6/100, a mean average of 89.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

Really like the way you put forward your opinions on these albums, the detail for each entry is a nice touch!
I think maybe the only thing this chart is lacking (and partly why 50% of the entries are from the 70s) is more diversity in terms of genre; under Marquee Moon you mention Verlaine's appreciation for jazz whilst no jazz picks crack your top 50, whilst could the lack of albums from this century be possibly down to the absence of more modern forms of electronic music and hip hop? Overall a lovely chart, seems like it hasn't been touched in a while, would be very interested to see if your thoughts on it has changed!

Not gonna lie, I listen to Lou Reed more than any other musician as well. I'm curious what you think of Lulu. It's on of his top 10 for me.

Huh. Would you describe yourself as... much of a Lou Reed fan, by chance?

Great chart. Love Lou Reed but maybe too much Lou for a top 50. Fisherman's Blues in the top ten is great. A beautiful album! Good job
