Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Those 2 Radiohead albums deserve to be leading this chart… if not for their quality, for emotional reasons.
Glad to see an REM and a U2 albums on the top 10… many people underrate the first and reacted to the evolution of U2's carrer with disgust but they are great band without a doubt.
Pearl jam never was my cup of tea… i've always inclined to the Pumpkins' side.
Nevermind. Absolute classic. Always was. always will be. Those that don't know or thing the opposite, will some day realize.
The white album is an odd choice for a Beatles' favorite. It's an intriguing album. I applaud that :)
Besides the top 10 I absolutely love and we're in total syntony on blur's 13, beatles' revolver, brian eno's another green world, flaming lips' soft bulletin & yoshimi, st. vincent's strange mercy, dirty projectors' swing lo magellan! and b&s' if you're feeling sinister.

Eleven albums in common, overall a good chart. Tons of albums on here are on my wish list, and will hopefully be on my chart eventually.
