Only discovered this album this summer. Perfect mix of all of the many heads of Eno. "St Elmo's Fire", "I'll come running" and "Golden Hours" are by far the three greatest pop songs written by Eno but mixed with ideas from his recent first foray proper into ambient music this album is perfect and deserves full attention, distinguishing it from his best full on ambient works which work best when they're floating in the background. And he managed to write it in the same year he got hit by a car. wow. [First added to this chart: 07/23/2011]

My sister bought this album when I was 11 and it was really the second record ever that i listened to death (the first being Gorillaz Demon Days). Also, not only note for note perfect ROQQQQ album but brilliant, very British, exploration of clubbing ettiquette, coming of age and small town life by Alex Turner. Alot cleverer than most bands lyrics without sounding like pretentious dickheads. I'll never see the sign "red lights indicate doors are secured" in a cab the same way again. Ignore the massive fucking hype round this album and it's so good. Don't care about the new era of rock 'n' roll, or the ineviatable velvet underground comparisons cos i was too young to know all that shit happen. I just heard this record and thought it was flawless. [First added to this chart: 06/21/2011]

Weirdly, this album is totally listenable, dancable etc. for any mood even though it's made up of 6-minute plus shoe- gaze ambient purity. It's the simple productiion that gets me though. If made now, the production would probably be too overpowering. Minimalist masterpiece. [First added to this chart: 07/23/2011]

My dad pounded SD into my head since I was a kid and I thought it was bullshit- I mean even their name is a fucking joke! But when you actually CONCENTRATE on it (as opposed to hearing your dad croon "I don't wanna do your dirteeeeeee work" from the front of the car) you see how well the band have blended jazz and rock together seamlessly and not sounded like fucking pricks in the process *cough* Captain Beefheart *cough*. I don't claim to have listened to many old records- but this is my favourite genre-fusion record of all time. Also, my dads awful radio-heart-dj-singing proves the point that above all this album is crammed with fun hooks and sing-alongs (listen to "midnite cruiser" and tell me I'm wrong) [First added to this chart: 06/21/2011]

This hits the real g-spot of all music- when a band can be just serious enough to make a brilliant jazz album without flying off in their acid filled chariot to wanky pretentious "free jazz" land. Imaginative, silly, snaking basslinealicious and catchy all at the same time. Even the more "Boring" bits in the album like "quadropuss island" sounds like the elevator music they play atop Mount Olympia. [First added to this chart: 06/04/2011]

Gah I'm frustrated. I know this is kids music, which is why i first started liking this in my early adolescence and they made the whole angular thing mainstream leading to loads of cheap fucking rip-offs. They did it so fucking well though. Still i can't exactly pinpoint the reason my finger can't get off the repeat button here... [First added to this chart: 06/04/2011]

My first shoegaze album, and what a first shoegaze album. Sea within a sea was the first song over 5 minutes apart from "So what" that i could listen to over and over for hours and never get bored. Its not just the energy of the Horrors in PC that make it so great- let's face it they've always had that- it's the way they channel their energy into fucking good long jams. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 76.3/100, a mean average of 68.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 24.8.

I feel your comment on my chart was sort of off base. I left a more thorough explanation on my chart. I can't rate yours because there is too much I haven't heard. As for your chart, well I like Another Green World and Brian Eno, but not as much as you. That first Arctic Monkeys album gave me serious ear fatigue, which made me hate it, so I haven't been able to listen to anything by them since. I like Blur. 13 was a really weird album that I don't think was very cohesive. Parklife is really enjoyable, but also really derivative of all the great British pop bands that came before Blur (none of which are represented on your chart). I wanted to like Merriwether Post Pavilion, but I don't care for the overly dense sound of it. The Strokes first album is great, but along with Parklife, that's a popular and critical favorite, so I think you're a tad hypocritical in your criticism of my chart. Welcome to best ever albums.

Nice choice with Seefeel. I can't recall seeing that album anywhere yet -- at least so high up. More albums though...

Hey buddy. Nice of you to pass by and compliment my chart. Remain in Light was indeed produced by Eno, and what a job he did too. Now. How about adding so more albums to yours? You've made such a good start...
