Top 40 Greatest Music Albums
by bmathieson

Still a work in progress. If i was to pick the Greatest 40 albums they would no doubt come from the top 100 all time list, with only a few exceptions. So how have i defined them
1. I played it a lot when it first came out and still play it.
2. It is a complete album, all the songs fit together and there are no fillers.
3. Either went back and bought the past cataglougue and/or continue to but the artists.

Fits my defintion of Great. 1. I played it a lot when it first came out and still play it. 2. It is a complete album, all the songs fit together and there are no fillers. 3. Either went back and bought the past cataglougue and/or continue to but the artists. An "urban legend" story is that post 9/11 a fan saw Bruce and said the country needs you. This was the response by the Boss. [First added to this chart: 10/21/2011]

Their Best Album. Most complete, captures perfectly the U2 sound perfectly. It appears the real follow up to the Joshua Tree but capturing their growth from Achtung Baby, Zooroopa and Pop!. A greate comeback album. They need another one! [First added to this chart: 10/21/2011]

Most people who liked/loved the Beatles and beyond probably lost interest in Paul McCartney somewhere between London Town and McCartney II. This is the album that should bring fans back. It was made after McCartney had been working on the Beatles Anthology project and after listening to all those tapes something must have clicked for him. After this album other greats also follow particularly Chaos and Creation and Electric Arguments. The real test is my wife hates me playing Beatles and solo Beatles albums but she will go and put this on!!! [First added to this chart: 10/21/2011]

Its difficult enough to pick your greatest albums but to pick the best Beatles album is even harder! A key criteria is the Album must be an Album rather than a just a bunch of really really good songs. This is obviously helped by McCartney's decision to have the second slide flow from one song into another. When it comes down to it the difference for me between Revolver, Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road is George Harrison's contributions. Songs don't come much better than Something and Here Comes The Sun. Ireland U2
It is easy to forget how radical this album was at the time. U2 went away to the divided city of Berlin to record an Album that was far from a U2 album. The output Brillant form the openinig track Zoo Station, Even Better and of course the Greatest song? One. There are no fillers and still sounds fresh! [First added to this chart: 10/21/2011]

At the time of its release is was the first real Album. Captured the spirit of the 60s perfectly. It would be my number 1 if EMI hadn't demanded Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane be released as a Double A single. Always fun working out where you would put those tracks! Yeah I follow you - good to see some unusual choices in there - I agree that we can have an emotional attachment to albums we grew up with and score them high and hold them dear against a more traditional top 40

I saw lots of chart that rank both U2 and B.S. high,
I like U2 but I'm not interested in B.S. then, I always wonder What is the simularity of that two?

Just took a second glance and noticed Daryl Braithwaite and Sherbet. Some Farnsy and Barnesy and we'd be set!
