What can I say about this album that hasn't already been said? Not much really. It was the first Beatles album I ever owned on vinyl. I bought it (a stereo second pressing)at a flea market in Warner Robbins, Georgia. If my house ever catches on fire, I'd bypass my laptop to grab it. Truly, a great album. Dylan once said that he didn't understand how anyone could enjoy listening to this album. He couldn't grasp how people could take so much pleasure from another person's misery. However, I don't hear an album about sadness, I hear an album about life. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

So you're three albums into my rankings, and I can tell you're thinking that this is going to be another prosaic and hackneyed chart with no originality at all. Maybe you're right, but ranking this album this high can't be considered trite at all. It's just really that good. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

The lyrics that sinuously weave their way through this album weren't written by Bob Dylan. They couldn't have been. One man can't speak words this penetrating, discerning, and transcendental without it completely destroying him. No, they must have been etched in stone tablets and then sent down from the very Gates of Eden for which Dylan croons. Listening to this album makes me feel like those Nazis in the final scene of "Raiders" where the Ark of the Covenant is opened. They receive a singular moment of ethereal wisdom before their faces melt in the most dramatic and horrifying of ways. Yeah, it's that good. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

The most played song on my Ipod is the title track from this masterpiece. Also, "Don't Let it Bring You Down" is a real hidden gem. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

Musically, this whole album sounds like it's in a foreign language. In other words, those of us who consider ourselves fluent in the language of "Radiohead" appreciate the electronic beauty this album bestows upon us. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

Better than Revolver? Darkside? Highway 61 Revisited? Huey Lewis & the News Greatest Hits? Hmm. Difficult to say. I think as well regarded as this album is now, it will only grow in prestige and become more venerable as the years pass. It seems like the typical band's makeup for the past four decades tended to be a lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, and drums. I expect to see more six, seven, and eight piece ensembles going forward. This album is largely why. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

Some artists are so inspiring that they make you want to be just like them. However, listening to this album makes you go "crap, I can't do that" and then quit the music scene altogether. The fifty or so minutes this album lasts is just enough time to dash the hopes of just about any aspiring songwriter. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]

Rolling Stone ranked this as the number two album of all time. When I saw that I remember thinking, "What? The Beach Boys are so lame." Out of curiosity more than anything else, I decided to check this album out anyway. I still wan't impressed. Six months later, I hear "God Only Knows" on the radio, and sat slacked jawed. I've done a total 180 since...and so now, I get the feeling that it might just be the best thing I've ever heard. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2012]
