Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Very cool list with some recommendations for eme, especially in the last 30 or so. But when I saw no Robert Johnson - King of the Delta Blues I figured they were just not doing compilations. Then they included Howlin' Wolf...which is a compilation. So yeah they should include RJ and some other blues. Hell even non compilation LPs by Mayall, Albert King, BB, Magic Sam, etc would have been good. Oh well. Still, it's great!
