GENRE: Shoegaze/Dream pop

As my best friend once said, Loveless is nothing short of "a wall of music." The loud, whooshing guitars, almost dream-poppy in cadence, are indecipherable in relationship to the vocals -- that is, existing neither in the background nor the foreground, but blending in the same plane as Belinda and Kevin's vocals. The music envelops the listener, immersing them fully in an unparalleled sonic experience. Once you climb the wall and see what's past the hard-to-dissect, sense-blasting sound, you uncover something absolutely extraordinary. One of the most rewarding albums I've ever listened to.

GENRE: Piano rock/Alternative

This album is ridiculously slept on. Incredible vocals, experimental singing and instrumentation, ridiculously clever songwriting. There are lines here that just make me cry because they're so good, and shine specifically when matched with Fiona's exhilarating delivery.

Some of my favorite lines:
"If what I am is what I am
'Cause I does what I does
Then brother get back, 'cause my breast's gonna bust open
The rib is the shell
And a heart is the yolk
And I just made a meal for us both to choke on." - Every Single Night

GENRE: Lo-fi, Avant-folk

This album was an instant favorite for me. The lo-fi, anti-folky sound matches up perfectly with the angsty lyrics that border on emo. If Pavement and Daniel Johnston had a lovechild, it'd be this record. The songs mirror each other deliciously; the patterns and common blips across this album truly are so fun to catch. This album is great to listen to both all the way through and track by track.

Favorite songs: all of them.

GENRE: Folk

One of the most important albums of my life. Lost my virginity to the opening 4 songs. I remember laying down with my boyfriend in the middle of the night and hearing Things Behind the Sun playing softly in the background and feeling this immense, timeless, oxymoronic sense of togetherness and loneliness. Most intimate I've felt in my life. Thank you Nick.

GENRE: Alt rock/Art rock/Experimental rock

This album explores the depth of human emotion, its highs and lows, the happiness in the sadness and the sad in the happy. Forever my favorite album.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.9/100, a mean average of 92.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.8.

I like this charts although not familiar with many of the albums - finish your notes so I can decide which one's I will listen to this year!!
Also agree that you should look back further to 60's, 70's & 80's stuff.
Seems you quite like serious/intelligent stuff so I suggest trying Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation from the 80's - avant rock/ art punk; try Lou Reed's Berlin from the 70's - second side is pretty heavy going but if it hits a nerve then you will love it; Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk from the 60's - Blues/Garage/Acid and Psychedelic Rock with a few defo weird bits.

Love the Fishmans representation! It's a lot of Radiohead but I can dig it. There's a wide variety of genres here to check out.

Great Chart and thanks for fishmans. Never heard before about his music. Now, i´m a little bit excited before my first listen.

I´m suprised that Panda Bears Person Pitch is not in your list.

So maybe you know them, but if you don´t, listen to Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth

LOVE your notes and the inclusion of Vespertine so high, along with a ton of my own personal favourites from the 90s/00s!! That said, with more Radiohead albums than anything from the 60s/70s/80s makes me feel like your missing out on some older underground classics? I might get this wrong but here's a couple of picks that you might enjoy :)

Nico - Chelsea Girl (gorgeous chamber folk album from the VU collaborater)
The United States Of America - The United States Of America (the only album from the massively ahead of their time and influential psychedelic rock band)
Brigitte Fontaine - Comme A La Radio (experimental chanson album loved by Beck and Sonic Youth among others)
Exuma - Exuma (eerie and sometimes beautiful folk from the Bahamas)
Galaxie 500 - On Fire (exemplary dream pop album that could be released now and still sound as fresh)
